Ellen Hathaway is a native Carolinian, born and raised on the Pamlico River in Washington. Ellen received her B.A. from The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and her M.A. from The University of Virginia’s Curry School of Education, pursuing careers in media advertising and teaching. When Ellen left the workforce to concentrate her energies on homemaking and family, she also took up painting in earnest. She adores the diversity and experimentation of mixing acrylic media, often depicting images of the flower as well as non-objective imagery, and most recently investigating oils.
Artist Statement: I was born with a desire to make art. For me, my paintings are sensuous explorations of the ambiguous edge between word and essence. Taking me to places of inner reflection and outward expression, prayers of aliveness are expressed by the act of making art.
