Teresa Mowery
Having started her artistic endeavors as a painter, Teresa Mowery became intrigued with jewelry and metalworking early on. Mowery received her B.F.A. in Metalsmithing and Jewelry from Maine College of Art in Portland, ME.She since has spent her time between New York City and Newport, RI. Tiverton, RI is where she has found home and continues to design and create work.
Artist Statement: I am inspired by nature, particularly repetitive patterns known as fractals. I was formerly trained as a jeweler, but most of my most interesting work has come from collaboration with my husband, a commercial coppersmith.
A BFA from Maine College of Art provided me with solid design training, but equally important has been my work experience in the fields of education, management and various trades. Over the years I worked for many fine art jewelers, taught workshops at the Worcester Center for Crafts, managed the Museum School at the Fuller Museum, Brockton, MA, and worked with people with disabilities. I currently reside in Tiverton, RI, where I find great inspiration in the geometry of nature. My artwork can be seen in many galleries as well as corporate and private collections throughout the United States
