Gordon Edberg “Bear With It”
$1500.00, 24 x 24 inches, oil on panel
For the past 30 years, Washington artist Gordon Edberg has focused his attention on the landscape and environments of the Pacific Northwest.
He began painting in watercolor but soon evolved in his work to pastel and pastel with watercolor and now concentrates in oil and oil bar on canvas. Many works also incorporate graphite and pastel. He likes to introduce calligraphy and incise marks into his paintings. The combination of line and shapes are often recognizable in much of his work. Inspired by the landscape, he creates images that recall mood and express feelings of general location with an expressionistic style that avoids photo realism.
Many of Gordy's paintings are created en plein air (on site) and ala prima (completed in one time). He uses many of these studies for in-studio work creating larger sizes that recall the mood and feeling originally witnessed. He exaggerates (pushes) color and in many works introduces unexpected color and elements of abstraction to heighten the painting’s effect.
