Calligraphy and abstract painting are the foundations of Diane Sheckells' work. Her fiber art uses images that she creates on an iPad and reproduces on fabric. These photos, drawings, and double exposures have a painterly character. Often, her quilts are enhanced with embroidery and they show a strong sense of design and love of color. A celebration of myth and cultural projection symbols thread throughout the work. Her process is improvisational and invites the viewer into a world of color and texture. An artist brings to their work the sum total of a lifetime of experiences…. books read, crafts mastered and the magic of the natural world all influence artistic output. As a teacher, Diane was able to enjoy sharing that wonder with many children. It has kept her own art work fresh and open to experimentation.
Her quilts have been exhibited at the National Quilt Museum at Paducah, the New England Quilt Museum, the Brush Gallery and internationally in Studio Art Quilt Associates traveling shows.
